Release of Santali Quarterly Magazine ‘Phurgal Arang’ in Dumka, a Major Initiative Towards Preserving the Ol Chiki Script

Quaterly Magazine Phurgal Arang release at Dishom Jaher Than, Dumka

Dumka (Santal Pargana) | Sept. 6, 2026:

On Sunday, a special literary and cultural program was organized at Dishom Manjhi Than, Dumka. Under the leadership of Nazir Hembram, the grand launch of the Santali quarterly magazine ‘PHURGAL ARANG’ (July–September issue) written in Ol Chiki script. It took place during the event.

Prominent writers and thinkers of the community played a commendable role in the successful publication of the magazine. Nazir Hembram contributed as the Chief Editor, while Sushil Hansda ‘Chilbinda’ served as the Assistant Editor. The advisory board includes Chunda Soren ‘Sipahi’, Shivlal Marandi ‘Bechara’, Shibu Tudu ‘Hisalia’ and Masih Marandi, while Babuji Soren ‘Birbaha’ acting as the patron.

During the program, speakers emphasized that this publication will prove to be a historic milestone in the preservation and promotion of the Santali language, literature and the Ol Chiki script. A large number of community members were present on the occasion, including Manjhi Baba Binilal Tudu, Teklal Marandi, Sitaram Soren, Ramprasad Hansda, Mohan Tudu, Prem Hansda, Shivshankar Soren, Sunil Marandi, Subhash Kisku, Shivkant Murmu and Jhumri Soren.
