Jhapa, June 21, 2026:
With the objective of preserving and promoting the Santali language, literature, and culture, the Santali Poetry Competition 2026, organized by Marshal Dahar Santhal Samaj at Kamal Rural Municipality–2 in Jhapa, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from poets across Nepal.
The competition showcased the literary talent, creativity, and cultural commitment of 18 Santali poets, highlighting the richness of Santali poetry and inspiring the younger generation to embrace their mother tongue and literary heritage.
The judging panel comprised respected educators Surya Narayan Hasda, Badaram Hemram, Dibilal Mardi, and Ramchandra Besra.
Winners
- First Prize: Buddhilal Soren (Urlabari-8, Morang) – Rs. 10,000, trophy, and certificate.
- Second Prize: Sunita Tudu (Dhanpalthan-6, Morang) – Rs. 7,000, trophy, and certificate.
- Third Prize: Bajun Murmu (Rangeli-1, Morang) – Rs. 5,000, trophy, and certificate.
Consolation prizes of Rs. 500 and certificates were presented to Sabita Mardi, Sarita Murmu, Samsan Soren, Sonelal Kisku, and Sunita Kisku.
The event was presided over by Khara Soren. The chief guest was Mohan Tudu, Member of the Constituent Assembly and Vice President of the International Santhal Council. Distinguished representatives of the Nepal Santhal Adivasi Utthan Sangh, literary enthusiasts, social workers, and local dignitaries also attended the event.
The programme emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Santali language, the Ol Chiki script, literature, and cultural traditions while encouraging young people to actively participate in creative literary activities. The organizers reaffirmed their commitment to organizing similar cultural and literary initiatives in the future.
The programme was conducted by Mahesh Murmu, who concluded the event with a vote of thanks to the guests, participants, organizers, and supporters.
